Synopsis
On June 1, 2020, on Children’s Day—which is also LU.CA’s anniversary—we came up with the idea of celebrating remotely, with music. We usually celebrate with cake, lemonade, friends, and music playing. Since that wasn’t possible, we invited our audience to party with us—but from home. And to throw a party, you need music. And to choose good music, you need someone who knows what they’re doing.
And that’s how the LU.CA channel on Spotify was born. First with a playlist to celebrate from morning to night, curated by the DJs Bandido$; then one for the end of (online) school, put together by Raquel Castro; the third, curated by Benjamim, marked the end of the theater season and the start of vacation; October showed us the Power of Music with a playlist by Pedro Ramos; and to close out the year—a year we won’t forget anytime soon—Inês Meneses put together a special playlist to get us ready for Christmas… these are songs to listen to and dance to, alone or with others, wherever you feel like it…
2021 began with this desire to create a new year.
To that end, we asked Dino D’Santiago for help. He put together this playlist featuring women’s voices and songs that speak to us of LOVE, HOPE, and a NEW LIFE, full of AFFECTION and BEAUTIFUL THINGS. This first playlist of the year is even more special because the musician decided to donate his fee to the Association of Cape Verdean Women in the Diaspora in Portugal.
In February, we invited DJ Tiago Miranda to put together a “Playlist to Celebrate Carnival,” and in March, Sallim brought us the “Spring Playlist”; we celebrated April with songs chosen by Luís Varatojo for the “The Revolution Isn’t on TV” playlist.
These are songs to listen to, to think about, to dance to. Songs to feel. And to bring us all closer together, even from a distance.
We’re still here, and we’ll keep bringing you music.
