  • Synopsis

LU.CA – Teatro Luís de Camões is launching the workshop “Instructions for Creating a Theater Production at Home.” Under the direction of Raquel André and Vanda R. Rodrigues, Miguel Castro Caldas created a script specifically for this workshop, based on the proposal he had previously written for LABOR—LU.CA’s theater laboratory in schools. With the assistance of set designer Sara Franqueira, this workshop group saw this period of lockdown—and the fact that in-person classes will not resume for many grade levels—as a unique opportunity to explore a workshop in a home-based setting.

Using the materials provided, the theater can take on a new life in a bedroom or the kitchen. All works shared with LU.CA will also be presented to the public on our social media channels during the first weekend of June.

This is the second year that LU.CA – Teatro Luís de Camões has organized LABOR. The lab, which was interrupted by the state of emergency, has found a new virtual space to take place, and the projects will now be presented online during the weekend of June 6 and 7.

This year, the LABOR project features the work of Manuel Henriques, Miguel Maia, Raquel André, and Vanda R. Rodrigues, who, together with school groups, have been working on the same text written by Miguel Castro Caldas. With set designs by Sara Franqueira, they are now transitioning this project to an online format.

All materials can be accessed here: Instructions for creating a “Theater at Home” performance.
