Synopsis
LU.CA, in an off-site event, brings stories to life, transforming them from the pages of books into the bodies and voices of the performers. Starting in October, the recently renovated Oficina das Artes da Ajuda—which served as the parish’s bathhouse for decades—will host staged readings on the first Saturday of every month.
Fatma
October 1
Based on the children’s book *Fatma* by Conceição Dinis Tomé, two actresses explore words and landscapes and recount the journey that Fatma, her mother, and her siblings undertake to find her father, who left to “seek a better future.” In this staged reading, we cross the sea together, facing the waves of fear, flight, and longing. But we also walk with steps of
courage and hope. Fatma loses her words during this journey. We will go in search of them!
Created by Ana Lúcia Palminha
Performed by Patrícia Fonseca
Staged Readings
November 5
These books are about life, the Earth, nature, and the balance that exists between all these elements and each one of us. Lying down or sitting on the cushions scattered across the floor, we’ll listen to and watch these stories take on new forms as they come to life from the pages of the books.

The Mystery of the Bear
December 3
Using their bodies, voices, and the interplay with their co-stars—along with simple props and a few pieces of clothing—the actresses bring to life various characters and situations based on picture books, including *The Mystery of the Bear* by Wolf Erlbruch.
