What can a theater be? At LU.CA, we want to know if, for you, a theater can be a space for cultural and political education, for freedom, and for self-identification.

• Synopsis

  What draws you to—and what turns you away from—the cultural spaces in your city? What would you change about the current programming? What kind of voice do you want to have in a museum or a theater? On July 7, we’ll ask questions, but above all, we’ll listen. What can a theater be? At LU.CA, we want to know if, for you, a theater can be a space for cultural and political education, for freedom and self-identification. We’ll take the stage to get to know one another, talk, and discuss the role of these spaces, as well as our most recent cultural memories and how we want to envision a theater for our future.

  The Listening Lab—Youth, Culture, Participation aims to create a platform for critical dialogue among peers about each person’s experiences and interests, in conjunction with the youth programming of five institutions—maat (Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology), BoCA (Biennial of Contemporary Art), Galerias Municipais, and LU. CA – Luís de Camões Theater, in Lisbon, and Casa da Cerca – Center for Contemporary Art, in Almada. The sessions will take place between June 2021 and May 2022. You can participate in all of them or just a few, depending on your availability and interest.
