Description
Let's create mini cabinets of curiosities with objects collected from our beaches and investigate the history of each one...
Synopsis
During the era of great maritime explorations, “cabinets of curiosities” emerged as places where a wide variety of rare and unknown animals and objects brought from “other worlds” were collected. A trip to the beach can be an expedition in search of unknown objects and creatures. In this workshop, we will create mini cabinets of curiosities with objects collected from our beaches and investigate the history of each one… What is it? Where did it come from? What is it used for? … Animal shells, seaweed, seeds, wood, glass pieces, and, of course, Plasticus maritimus!
Ana Pêgo
Ana Pêgo was fortunate to live close to the beach, which is where she developed a love for the ocean. She studied Marine Biology and Fisheries and worked on research projects at the University of Algarve and the maritime Laboratory of the Guia de Cascais for several years. Since 2012, she has focused on environmental education projects that combine science with art to raise awareness about marine life and ocean conservation. It was in this context that in 2015, she created the Plasticus maritimus project, through which she has conducted workshops, training sessions, and exhibitions throughout Portugal and abroad. In 2018, she co-authored the book “Plasticus maritimus, uma espécie invasora” with Isabel Minhós Martins, which is recommended by the National Reading Plan and has been translated into 11 languages.
