The Food Series

Year 2025 From 4 January to 6 February

Author: Joana Barrios

The Food Series, a name that was written in our personal notes and has now become official, stems from a deeply attentive listening process undertaken by LU.CA with the artists who make up the national landscape, combined with the audacity inherent to its nature. As a space dedicated to childhood, LU.CA follows the same principles: it is free from prejudice and societal constructs.

The first iteration of what this series could become took place in the previous season, 2023/2024, online, with Coolinary Fictions , a small web-based series of culinary narratives exploring three major Christmas food myths. Now, it comes into full force, spanning headphones, the stage, and beyond. This series has been entirely conceptualised by me, with its various areas of impact curated by individuals who, in one way or another, are part of this journey through food – not just for children, but for everyone. Throughout January, every space at LU.CA will be filled with a programme centred on the encompassing theme of food. It includes formats to be enjoyed inside and outside the theatre, for those who want to get hands-on and those who don’t, for those who need to think about the topic or simply want to listen. Eating is everywhere. Food is part of our daily lives; eating is identity, community, health, and luck. It is ritualistic, about bonds and tastes, deeply personal yet inherently transmissible – above all, transmissible – and this series is all about that.
It features a performance that acts as a sort of culmination of all the other elements in the bouquet: a podcast, a conversation series for all, an exhibition, staged readings, workshops, and even storytelling sessions. And you wouldn’t believe how much had to be left out!…
