Sometimes there are machines, mechanisms, and systems so vast and complex that they seem impossible to stop, even when most people believe we would live much better without them. The truth is that, at times, all it takes is “a particle smaller than a speck of dust” to bring almost all the machines in the world to a halt.
Has this ever happened? Let us imagine that it has. And let us imagine the silence immediately after this standstill. Is it truly silence? What other sounds and voices are hidden within the silence of the machines? What languages do they speak, and what do they say?
