What is justice? And injustice? “An Idea of Justice”, by Joana Provid\u00eancia, with text by Isabel Minh\u00f3s Martins, is a performance that literally puts these questions on the table, a table where an idea of justice is attempted to be built. Around it, there are special chairs for everyone to sit: those with long legs, those who can’t sit still, those who always come and those who aren’t usually invited. On it, various props: for example, a platter filled with fruit. Who is hungrier? Who hasn’t eaten yet? Who is entitled to this fruit? Similar questions arise when rights, duties or freedoms are what’s on the table. By addressing issues like diversity, choice, equality, and freedom, this performance aims to be a tool for building justice. And to answer Sophia de Mello Breyner’s proclamation: “He who sees the astonishing splendour of the world is logically led to see the astonishing suffering of the world.”<\/p>\n
